The School of the Arts adopts a 6-year connected arts and academic curriculum. Students audition for a specialisation in music, dance, theatre or the visual arts. However, students are exposed to the basics of all four arts disciplines and continue to adopt a cross-disciplinary approach even as they develop in their chosen discipline.

The average class size of approximately 20 - 25 students provides exposure to the high standards of a rigorous academic and arts programme. The School of the Arts believes that instilling curriculum core concepts in a supportive arts environment will cultivate greater clarity of insight, critical evaluation and creativity.

In providing a student-centred teaching and learning environment, the curriculum of the School of the Arts reflects the conviction of the teaching faculty in connecting the fundamental concepts from an inter-disciplinary approach. Guided by the school values, the curriculum celebrates experimentation, expression, engagement and discovery in its pedagogical approaches and assessment modalities. As an integrated arts and academic curriculum which has the holistic development of the students in mind, the Connected Curriculum aims to prepare our students for the challenges of the 21st century that is marked by interdependence, diversity, technology and accelerated change.

In nurturing artistic talents and developing leaders who would enrich society with their talents, a holistic experience comprising leadership, citizenship and character education, is also integrated into the curriculum. In line with the integrated approach to learning, the learning of intra and interpersonal skills including Sexuality Education is integrated into the learning of other disciplines such as Science, Media Education and Analysis, Research and Communication. The key messages in these integrated lessons are aligned with those as stipulated by the Ministry of Education.

The School of the Arts offers its students a curriculum committed to excellence in the arts. Under the guidance of its distinguished faculty of outstanding arts specialists and experienced educators, it offers an exciting new pedagogic environment where students can achieve the highest possible artistic and intellectual standards as individuals and responsible members of the community.

Excellence in the arts not only emphasises performance and technical skills but also critical theory and history, composition and choreography, and the incorporation of technology and digital media - all with the end in mind to nurture and develop deep critical thinking, heightened creative awareness and lifelong inter-personal skills.

Space for personal reflection and practice, as well as class lessons, rehearsals and studio work along with master classes with visiting artists, and off-campus programmes and tours, will also complement the curriculum.

The 6-year programme will also include exposure through performances, exhibitions and internships with arts companies and other creative businesses. This would include design and media modules (e.g. film) for both visual arts and performing arts students. Artist residencies may also be offered at the School of the Arts.

The School of the Arts will build on Singapore's unique strengths, including her multi-cultural Asian diversity and global connected networks to synergise talents and resources. A school of the future, the School of the Arts embraces a holistic educational philosophy that celebrates experimentation, expression and discovery.
