
Low Hwee San graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours in Chemistry). She went on to obtain her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Distinction) from the National Institute of Education.
Hwee San started her teaching career at Raffles Junior College in 1997 as a Chemistry tutor and lecturer, during which she was involved in training selected students from various junior colleges for the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) for 4 years together with lecturers from NUS. She went on to lead the Singapore team to the International Chemistry Olympiad Competition 2003 in Athens as the Scientific Observer. Hwee San was also a recipient of the Ang Kok Peng Memorial Fund under the category, Professional Advancement Programme for Outstanding Chemistry Teachers (Junior College).
Hwee San is a strong believer in the power of experiential education in shaping youths’ character and helping them understand social issues and their role in the world. She was a part of the Raffles Institute for Experiential Learning from 2007 – 2009 and held the position of Assistant Department Head, Community Education in Raffles Junior College from 2006 to 2008. Her experience with service learning began with her leading a Youth Expedition Project (YEP) team to Cambodia in 2001. She then went on lead more expeditions to Laos, Thailand, Taiwan and China. Currently, she is sitting on the Advisory Panel for YEP under the National Youth Council.
Hwee San was a chorister since her junior college days and the teacher mentor for the chorale at Raffles Junior College. Now she continues to sing with her church choir.
