Melhan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Malay Studies and Political Science) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and attained his Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Malay Literature and Malay Language) from the Nanyang Technological University/National Institute of Education (NTU/NIE). He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts (Southeast Asian Studies) at NUS.

Prior to joining SOTA, Melhan taught Higher Malay, Malay (Special Programme) and Conversational Malay at Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary). He was the coordinator for the Malay (Special Programme) and served in the Ministry of Education - Curriculum Planning and Development Division working committee for the current Malay (Special Programme) teaching materials.

Melhan is a music enthusiast predominantly in percussion and ethnic percussion and has been involved in performances since secondary school.
