Liao Jiekai is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Singapore. In 2005, he received a Presidential Merit Scholarship to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in film and video.

As a visual artist, Jiekai worked extensively with video installations in his formation years, participating in various group exhibitions in Singapore, Chicago and Prague. Jiekai also co-founded "Half Elephant", a film and video artist collective based in the Asia Pacific Region, where he curated the first public showcase of moving-image works from its members, at the Post-Museum in Singapore.

As an educator, Jiekai taught visual arts in Kent Ridge Secondary School in 2005 and conducted a video art course in Nanyang Girls High in 2008. He also worked as a media trainer in SAIC, instructing both students and faculties in the use of media equipment.

Under his directorial belt are several short films, most notably "Clouds in a Shell" which was showcased in the 13th Asian American Showcase in Chicago and "The Inner City" which was selected for competition at the 2nd Asian Berlin Hot Shots, and screened at the 3rd Singapore Indie Doc Fest. His active involvement in the Singapore film scene also brought him credentials as producer, editor and cinematographer of several short and feature length films. Jiekai is currently developing his first feature length film "Red Dragonflies", co-produced by local film initiative "13 Little Pictures" and funded with a Script Development Grant from the Singapore Film Commission.
