Xia Haiying trained and graduated with Honours from the Beijing Dance Academy of China. She holds a Professional Dancer’s Teaching Diploma with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) where she graduated with Distinction and was invited to be a tutor for RAD’s Certified Ballet Teacher’s Study.

Her numerous international accolades comprise clinching the Grand Prix Prize at the 7th Asia Pacific International Ballet Competition Tokyo in Japan, Gold medal at the “Tao Li Cup” Dance Competition of China, “Front Award” from MediaCorp TV’s Arts Central, Nomination for the “Benois de La Danse Prix” and performance at the Gala at Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. She is also a recipient of the Singapore National Arts Council Young Artist Award.

Haiying joined Singapore Dance Theatre in 1993 and had taken on principal roles in many full length productions including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Giselle, La Sylphide, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Anna Karenina, The Red Shoes, and Madame Butterfly. She had also performed lead roles in George Balanchine's Who Cares?, Jiri Kylian's Forgotten Land and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Nacho Duato's Jardi Tancat, Stanton Welch's Maninyas, Marie-Claude Pietragalla's Les Noces and Rite of Spring, as well as many of Goh Choo San's works. Throughout her career as a principal dancer, Haiying has performed internationally in many major venues such as USA, UK, Mexico, France, Australia, China and Korea, gaining recognition and praise from both international and local well-known publications like London Dance Magazine and The Australia.
