
Darrell graduated from University of Toronto, Canada with a degree in Arts (Honours), majoring in Literature and Economics. She then went on to obtain a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education [Literature and English Language].
Prior to SOTA, she taught Literature briefly (1 year) but mostly General Paper, for 11 years at Nanyang Junior College. During her stint at the college, Darrell was in charge of the college library as well as Student Council. Apart from these responsibilities, she was also an active member of the college Service-Learning Committee.
Darrell firmly believes in volunteerism and in being an educator without borders. Since 2001, she had participated and led numerous Service-Learning expeditions to countries such as Kazakhstan, Thailand, Batam and China. In addition, she also coordinated all outgoing International Service-Learning expeditions [ISLE] for both staff and students at Nanyang Junior College since 2008, and acted as teacher-advisor for these teams. In her own time, Darrell is a volunteer at TOUCH Community Service (TCS). Amongst her numerous involvement, she has taught life skills to beneficiaries at Changi Women Prison and conducted home visitations for TCS clients.
