Cancer survivor can walk now
SOTA Visual Arts student, Gillan Chen was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. However, this did not dampen her courage to fight the disease and her determination to pursue her art education at SOTA.

Creative Youths Straddle the Arts and Teaching
Four youths who straddled the arts and teaching, and noted that despite their youth, they spoke like experienced educators when discussing student psychology and teaching methods. The four youths were Liao Jiekai, a 26-year-old teacher in the School of the Arts (SOTA) and a movie director, Grace Tan, a 31-year-old teacher in SOTA and a fashion designer, Max Tan, a 27-year-old teacher in Lasalle College of the Arts, and who supervised product development for fashion shows, and Marienne Yang, a 28-year-old teacher in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and an installation artist.

Three Schools in Triumphant Dance
SOTA, NAFA and LASALLE work together in a recent dance showcase for the first time at Contact 2011 held at the Goodman Arts Centre. They seek to promote the development of the local arts scene collectively among our Singapore youths.
Through the door, a SOTA production was featured and SOTA students from the Dance faculty was praised for performing with maturity and dance precision.

Allen & Overy LLP collaborates with the School of the Arts (SOTA) Singapore
From October 2011 until October 2013, Allen & Overy will be collaborating with the School of the Arts (SOTA).
Allen & Overy will provide SOTA students with a real-life context of practice and connection to the community by displaying artwork of SOTA students in the reception of its new office space at OUE Bayfront. The artwork will be rotated on a half yearly basis during the two year collaboration.

Car Livery Competition for Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia – Singapore 2011
SOTA students are given an excellent opportunity to showcase their potential and talent in collaboration with SC Global Developments to design the livery for a Porsche car, to be displayed in conjunction with the promotion of the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA). This is the Asian edition of the enormously successful international Carrera Cup, which supports several rounds of the F1 World Championship.

SOTA Official Opening
SOTA celebrated its official opening on 15 July 2011, of which, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the guest-of-honour at the event. This event marked a new chapter in the school’s journey since its inception in 2008 as Singapore’s first national pre-tertiary specialised arts school.
