Sharing the ASEAN Spirit

SOTA was selected by the Ministry of Education to represent Singapore at the 2nd Malaysia-Asean School Linkage Program in June in Trengganu, Malaysia, which was held in conjunction with the 17th Commonwealth Education Ministers Conference (CEMC).

Six of our Year 3 dance students were chosen to be Singapore’s ambassadors in this exchange program, which brought together students from the various Asean nations in a spirit of cultural learning, sharing and friendship.

At a dinner organised as part of the opening ceremony of the CEMC in Kuala Lumpur, SOTA students showcased their artistic training with a Chinese ethnic dance performance that was well received by the international audience of Asean education ministers, specialist educators and practitioners.

The students also stayed with local families in Trengganu, learning about many aspects of the local culture such as Malay wedding customs, traditional handicrafts and dance, as well as forging new friendships across borders.
